J-1 English Proficiency Requirement

J-1 scholars must have English proficiency corresponding to a 79 on the TOEFL iBT or a 6.5 on the IELTS Academic.

J-1 Health Insurance Requirement

All J-1 Exchange Visitors are required to maintain health insurance coverage up to certain levels for the entire time that they are participating in the J-1 program.

J-1 Student Intern Program

The internship must fulfill the educational objectives for the current degree program at the individual’s home institution and assist the intern in developing practical skills to enhance future career opportunities.

J-1 Exchange Visitor Incident Reporting

Departments must promptly notify the OISS of any serious incident or allegation involving a J-1 Exchange Visitor sponsored by Washington University in St. Louis the same day the incident or allegation occurs.

Out of Country Documentation

Out of Country documents need to be completed when a J-1 will temporarily carry out program activities outside the U.S.

Completion of J-1 Program

A sponsoring department must notify OISS when a J-1 scholar completes his/her program by completing the appointment in HRMS.
